Prayers and Compassion for Ukraine

10-year-old Alona (name changed) fled Kharkov with her family. She and her older sister had 20 minutes to pack their bags. Alona brought a phone and a few soft toys. We have watched in horror as the violence against civilians in Ukraine has been revealed. In the months since Russia commenced a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, millions of people have been forced to flee their homes and countless others have experienced attacks in violation of international humanitarian law, some of which may amount to war crimes.

As people of faith, we recognize the power of prayer for comfort, healing and hope. We join in personal and collective, interfaith prayer for our Ukrainian neighbors and for refugee families in search of safety around the world. Let us include prayers for the displaced in our daily reflections and our ongoing worship. We pray, as we renew our commitment to peace and compassionate action for the people of Ukraine and for all at-risk people fleeing violence and persecution.

Prayer wall

O God,
We pray for the people of Ukraine -- may they know your loving presence, that you weep with them and know their pain.

We pray for your holy Wisdom to be a force for peace, to touch the hearts of the Russian leaders and all who are involved in diplomatic meetings to end this horrible war.

May we continue to hope against hope that peace is indeed possible and that there will be an end to these atrocities.

Amen

Lord,

We pray for peace in the midst of violence, joy in the midst of sorrow, and trust in the midst of uncertainty. Be with those fleeing their homes to find safety and bring your comfort to wherever they are on their journey.

Amen

Our Heavenly Father,
We thank thee for today and for bringing us together as a family to pray for Ukraine.
We ask that you protect the people of Ukraine and give them the peace ,justice, comfort and strength.
We pray for leaders of the world to show compassion to them, give their leader the wisdom to guide them in every choice or decision they will make.
We pray in this crisis moment for the world to come together and help protect every individual in need.
We humbly ask all these in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Amen

Lord, make us all instruments of your peace and make us worthy to call on your name. Incline your ears unto the suffering of the people of Ukraine. God of comfort and compassion, hear the cries of the children and their mothers. Have mercy on them and deliver them from the heavy hand of war. Restore their nation, their families, and make them whole again. We pray in the matchless name of Jesus. Amen.
