CWS PRESS STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT TRUMP’S COMMENTS YESTERDAY

After President Trump’s comments yesterday, CWS Immigration and Refugee Program Executive Director Erol Kekic issued the following statement:

“Let’s call it as it is: President Trump’s comments yesterday afternoon are not only unpresidential but blatantly racist. Sadly, this crude and bigoted rhetoric is less and less surprising to hear from our commander-in-chief. The silver lining here is that the majority of Americans stand for welcome and vehemently disagree with the President. Immigrants and refugees—from countries all over the globe—strengthen our nation and enrich our communities. We ask each of you to make your voice heard and stand in solidarity with immigrants and refugees at GreaterAs1.org.”

Since 1946, Church World Service has supported refugees, immigrants and other displaced individuals, in addition to providing sustainable relief and development solutions to communities that wrestle with hunger and poverty.
