Church World Service Launches Eighth Annual 100 Mile Hunger Walk Campaign
NEW YORK— Church World Service today announced that this weekend will mark the launch of the organization’s eighth annual 100 Mile Hunger Walk campaign—an initiative that both raises awareness and funds to fight hunger around the world and celebrates the power of volunteerism. Executive Vice President Maurice A. Bloem of Church World Service, who founded the event and will again lead the effort, will begin this year’s journey this Sunday, October 6th, in New York City, walking for seven days until its conclusion in York, Pennsylvania eight days later.
This year Bloem will join forces with CROP Hunger Walks as they celebrate 50 years of service. The concentration is on celebrating 50 years of volunteerism by community members all over the U.S. who have worked tirelessly to raise funds and awareness to end hunger around the world as well as in their own backyards.
Alongside the week-long event, the 100 Mile Hunger Walk campaign will be launching a new CWS Global App campaign, 50 Years of CROP, on Sunday, October 6, which allows participants to walk, learn, and share to earn points. As participants earn points, they can redeem rewards in which our back-donors make a donation for them to support a variety of CWS projects around the world.
Bloem will depart this Sunday in New York City at City Hall and make his way to begin the 7th in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the 8th in Red Bank, New Jersey, and on the 9th he will make his way to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The following day he will be in Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania as he makes his was to Lancaster on the 11th before the trip culminates in New Freedom and York on the 12th and 13th of the month.
