Democratic Republic of Congo

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, ongoing conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands of people, leaving families without access to food, safety or stability. To meet urgent needs, Church World Service established a new office in Kananga, focused on supporting the most vulnerable communities.

In our initial response, CWS conducted baseline assessments for more than 1,500 households and partnered with local leaders to identify urgent needs. As a result, we’re providing direct cash assistance for food and distributing seed packets to 1,575 families—nearly 9,500 people— in Kasai-Central Province, helping them meet immediate needs while building long-term food security.

This work goes beyond emergency relief. CWS is preparing to launch a three-year Triple Nexus initiative that combines humanitarian aid, development and peacebuilding—helping communities recover and rebuild with lasting strength.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo and beyond, CWS is committed to walking alongside families in crisis, offering support that meets immediate needs and lays the foundation for a more hopeful future.
