Church World Service Stands in Solidarity with Families Affected by Tsunami in the Sunda Strait, Indonesia

December 24, 2018

Our neighbors in Indonesia have been impacted by yet another disaster. On Saturday, December 22, a tsunami following a volcanic eruption killed hundreds and destroyed livelihoods and infrastructure on the islands of Sumatra and Java. Dangerous volcanic activity continued on Sunday and CWS is closely monitoring the situation in the Sunda Strait. While we are grateful to confirm that our team members in Indonesia are safe, many families are not. We stand in solidarity with the people of Indonesia; the families and children  impacted by this latest tragedy, as well as the hundreds of thousands who are still recovering from other emergencies that impacted the country this year. Our prayers are with the survivors and the responders as they begin the road to recovery.
