Global Migration: A Renewal of our Common Mission

Serving vulnerable people who are on the move, and addressing injustices that force people to migrate, has been the core of our collective mission since Church World Service began its work in 1946. From our very start, we recognized that forced migration was not a temporary phenomenon, and ever since we have been a grassroots movement to welcome those who are displaced, and to advocate for the dignity and safety of all those who are on the move.

As we prepare to come together in October, we are mindful that the global crises that we face – unprecedented levels of forced migration, the growing numbers of people affected by climate change, and concerted efforts to deny basic rights and human dignity to people on the move – are ones that none of us can respond to alone. Our collective response must be as powerful and intentional as the deep root causes that are compelling men, women, girls and boys around the world to migrate. Join us as we undertake a renewal of our common mission for these next decades.

Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be fair balance. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is fair balance.
– 2 Corinthians 8:13-14
