Hunger & Poverty
When we team up with communities around the world, we are working together to move against hunger and poverty. We're proud to be the toolbox communities need to make sustainable change.
As we combat these main two challenges, the community we are working with is at the helm. They weigh in on what their most urgent challenges are. As the program unfolds, CWS provides expert guidance, supplies and funding. Communities provide the time and effort to make the program successful. They care for shared gardens, help with construction, attend workshops and mobilize their neighbors.
When we invest in people who are vulnerable or under-served, they can fulfill their own goals. By joining hands, we can ensure that future generations have enough to eat, a safe place to call home, a valuable education and the opportunity to thrive.
Nebaj women in Guatemala are flourishing together
In Guatemala we are helping families in the departments of Quiché and Quetzaltenango grow and care for their own gardens. So far we have helped 590 families build gardens and 30 to build greenhouses. We have also delivered a variety of vegetable seeds which include coriander, radish, beets, chard, spinach and more. Since the implementation of the program, we saw gardens flourish so we decided to develop a community market. The market is an opportunity for neighbors to support one another by buying and selling their products to each other. With seeds of hope, we are seeing a community grow and flourish together.
