Zion UCC promotes Blankets+ in the Advent-Christmas season

January 27, 2012

“Zion U.C.C. in Henderson, Ky, schedules the Church World Service Blankets+ appeal in the Advent-Christmas season.  We use posters to announce the effort and publish it with a list of mission projects.  We have a CWS blanket displayed and used in our youth and children’s sermon during worship.  During the presentation, which frankly is just as much for the adults as it is for the young people, the various uses of the blanket are talked about.

Literature about Blankets+ is inserted in Sunday Bulletins.  We also use the CWS Blankets+ DVD either in Sunday School or worship or both.  In that presentation we can talk about the Plus part of the appeal.

During the year we forward CWS emails to the congregation.  We also focus on CWS during Lent and collect items for CWS Kits.  It is important to keep the wonderful work of CWS before the congregation throughout the year.

Zion also participates in the annual Vanderburgh County CROP Hunger Walk to benefit Church World Service, the Tri-State Food Bank (which serves 8 counties in Kentucky, 9 counties in Indiana, and 16 counties in Illinois.), and the Emergency Food Pantry System of Evansville.  This year we raised over $1,000 for the walk.”
