Statement on Indiana’s “Religious Freedom” Law

March 30, 2015

Church World Service believes in fairness and equality. Faith is a powerful force that should bring humankind together, rather than tear us apart.

As a humanitarian, relief and development agency that has been operational in Elkhart, Indiana since the 1950s, CWS does not support any policy that might be used as a means of discrimination against LGBT or any other category of citizens. Holding the mandate to promote peace and justice, any law that is an impediment to the peaceful society we work to build every day, in Indiana, the U.S. and in more than 30 countries around the world is antithetical to everything for which CWS has worked for nearly 70 years.
