URGENT: 2021 Haiti Earthquake Response

Earthquake damage in Haiti's Grand Anse department.

A major 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on the morning of August 14, killing more than 2,000 people and damaging or destroying tens of thousands of homes, schools and other buildings.

The earthquake struck in the southwest of the country. CWS worked with families and communities in the area following Hurricane Matthew in 2016. We are proud to say that 100% of the CWS-constructed houses and schools that we've heard about following this earthquake stood strong and were undamaged.

We will be drawing on the same expertise and best practices to respond to this earthquake. We are providing immediately relief in the first 90 days. It will focus on medical access, trauma recovery, shelter, hygiene supplies and water access.

Then, we will look to long-term recovery. We will focus on rebuilding homes and community water structures. Our response will also help families recover lost livelihoods, prioritize trauma recovery and support education. Read our full appeal here.
