New York, NY- Rev. John L. McCullough, President and CEO of Church World Service, issued the following statement in response to today’s tragic shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA:

“My heart aches to think of the innocent people killed and harmed in a house of worship. Hate is an ugly scourge in our society and must be rooted out like the cancer it is. Today we mourn for the lives lost, and redouble our efforts to build compassionate and welcoming communities.”

Since 1946, Church World Service has supported refugees, immigrants and other displaced individuals, in addition to providing sustainable relief and development solutions to communities that wrestle with hunger and poverty. Learn more about our refugee and immigrant work at GreaterAs1.org.
