Concerned about future raids targeting undocumented immigrants

Washington, D.C. – CWS was shocked to learn that after the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) was terminated, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was planning massive raids in the month of September to detain and deport undocumented members of the community. “Operation Mega” would have been the largest deportation in their history as an agency and was designed to get as many “collateral” immigrants as possible.

“It truly pains me, as a faith leader, that our administration has intensified its harsh attack on immigrant communities,” said CWS President and CEO Reverend John McCullough. “These raids tear families apart, and to carry them out in the aftermath of the DACA rescission is unconscionable and immoral. ‘Operation Mega’ is just one instance of this administration’s relentless assault on our immigrant communities. I call on our leaders to treat our immigrant sisters and brothers with compassion and mercy and put a stop to such operations.”
