July 23, 2014

Church World Service’s next disaster recovery webinar will be on “Children in Disaster,” and will be live 2 to 3:15 p.m. (U.S. Eastern) Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Learn how you can support this important work with our most vulnerable and also resilient little ones.

Presenters will include Kathleen Fry-Miller, Associate Director of Children’s Disaster Services (CDS) of the Church of the Brethren, which in partnership with others has been caring for children following disasters since 1980. In this presentation, Fry-Miller, who lives in North Manchester, Ind., will share an overview and some background on the work of the New Windsor, Md.-based CDS, as well as information on emerging partnerships, the latest responses, and new directions for the program.

Also presenting will be Nancy Beers, Director of Disaster Services and Camp Noah for Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, Albert Lea, Minn. Beers will introduce Camp Noah to the audience. Camp Noah is a week-long Vacation Bible School-type experience for children who have been affected by a disaster. The curriculum of the day camp was designed to help children experience God’s love and recover from traumatic events.
