Championing the Refugee Cause in South Florida

December 1, 2014

CWS South Florida will be celebrating 54 years of building community for refugees during its 2014 Restoring Dignity Annual Charity Event

The CWS Restoring Dignity Annual Charity Event will take place on December 5th at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 De Soto Boulevard, Coral Gables from 6pm-9pm. Join us as we present the life and journey of refugees and other immigrant groups that now call South Florida their new home.

CWS assists more than 20,000 persons arriving in South Florida each year through its Immigration and Refugee Program, which helps refugees and other immigrant groups to integrate and become economically self-sufficient members of our society. CWS is often the first organization that immigrants encounter upon arrival and the primary source for their assistance, orientation, and legal services. The organization continuously supports arriving refugees from across the globe as well as asylees from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti, Colombia, and even Syria and Afghanistan.

“We’re excited about the coming new year because our services are expanding to a more diverse group of immigrants – such as providing legal representation to unaccompanied minors, processing visa petitions filed on behalf of same sex spouses, legal assistance to DACA applicants, asylees from Venezuela, and Haitian family petitions. We anticipate serving a greater number of persons next year.” – Oscar Rivera, CWS South Florida Director.

The Restoring Dignity Charity Event will help CWS raise the needed funds to provide the support and services that are most crucial to arriving families resettling in South Florida. The event will showcase an info-gallery displaying the photos and short stories of refugees and other immigrants who have fled their country to find hope and a new beginning in the United States.

The event ticket price is $25 dollars per person and can be purchased online atwww.cwsglobal.org/restore. The event is semi-formal and will provide complimentary hors d’oeuvres and wine. All proceeds will go directly to assisting refugees and other immigrant arrivals during 2015.
