The Road to Mission

Faith communities can become discouraged because of numbers—not enough members, not enough minutes in the day, or not enough square feet in the building to do the work. The Road (Disciples of Christ), a new congregation in Fairfax, Virginia, is willing to be mission-driven instead of numbers-driven to make a difference.

Along the way, God created a strong community of people wanting to share their love with the world. With the support of the Hilton Garden Inn, the congregation’s place of worship, the church has accomplished big goals. With a small membership of 12-15 and members of the Hilton Garden Inn family, they have assembled 800 CWS Hygiene Kits (November, 2012) and 80 CWS Emergency Cleanup Buckets (March, 2013) to date. Through the participants’ enthusiasm, use of social media, and other congregational support, The Road has become a driving force behind organizing and reaching high goals in mission as a result of being small.
