Media Advisory: CWS Changes Venues for First Community Meeting On New Refugee Resettlement Office in Poughkeepsie, NY

NEW YORK—To help accommodate high community interest in the opening of a new refugee resettlement office in Poughkeepsie, NY, Church World Service — a global humanitarian organization and one of nine refugee resettlement agencies in the United States — today announced that it has changed venues for its first informational meeting.

The public information session on Thursday, November 10 will now be held at Christ Episcopal Church from 5:00-6:30 p.m. This informational event is open to the public and will be followed by prayer service from 7-8 p.m.

In the months to come, CWS will host additional community meetings and informational sessions pertaining to CWS Poughkeepsie.

CWS — which has 34 local and affiliate offices spanning 21 states across the U.S. — is opening this new refugee resettlement office as part of its broader efforts to address the global displacement crisis. Already, CWS resettles refugees in three New York State locations: Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse. Since it first opened its doors in 1946, CWS has helped more than 850,000 refugees, Cuban and Haitian entrants, and other immigrants resettle and rebuild their lives.

CWS Poughkeepsie will welcome refugees to Dutchess County in 2017, offering services like basic needs support, case management, cultural orientation, health access assistance, and job preparation and placement help. Learn more about CWS Poughkeepsie and get involved: cwspoughkeepsie.org.
