Ecumenical Advocacy Days Coming Soon!

January 9, 2012

The 10th annual Ecumenical Advocacy Days (EAD) gathering is quickly approaching. This year’s Washington, DC event will be held March 23-26, 2012.  Entitled “Is this the fast that I choose,” the conference will look at economy, livelihoods and our nation’s policy priorities through the lens of Isaiah 58.

Participants will gather from churches throughout the country to explore an alternative vision for the U.S. and global economies — a vision beyond greed and injustice that affirms the reality of God’s abundance and creates the possibility of sustainable livelihoods with dignity for all.

This is a crucial year. During 2012 Congress will make far-reaching decisions on the budget, and our country will vote for a president and members of Congress.  At such a time it is more important than ever for people of faith to speak out loudly and clearly. We must raise our voices for a just economy and a federal budget that helps create good jobs for all while strengthening vital lifelines for the hungry, impoverished and vulnerable in the United States and abroad.

Following an event-packed week-end of worship, preaching, expert presentations, issue workshops, and training in grassroots advocacy, EAD participants will visit the offices of their members of Congress to advocate for a federal budget that prioritizes job creation and vital assistance to hungry and impoverished children, women and men in domestic programs and international aid.

Workshop offerings will focus regionally on U.S. policy toward Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and our own domestic economy, as well as on the thematic areas of Eco-Justice, Global Economic Justice and Peace & Global Security.

Church World Service is a primary sponsor of Ecumenical Advocacy Days. CWS and the National Council of Churches, along with many of their member communions, Catholic communities and organizations, and other faith-based organizations, join together each year to raise a biblically-based witness for peace, justice and the integrity of creation, lifting a common Christian voice in advocacy on U.S. domestic and international policy issues.
