CWS President and CEO the Rev. John McCullough today released the following statement urging the return of schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria:

Words cannot express the outrage we and others feel about the kidnapping of hundreds of Nigerian girls by the Islamic organization Boko Haram. We support efforts by the United Nations, the Nigerian and the US governments and others to try to gain the release of these girls.

We strongly agree with those calling on Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to do everything necessary to solve this reprehensible crime. We note with gratitude the grass-roots rallies throughout the world calling for action and showing support for the girls and their grieving families.

We note, too, the depth of understanding much of the world has now about the realities and challenges faced by girls and women in many parts of the world. As a humanitarian organization whose work supports the equality and advancement for girls and women, we are proud to join our voice to those saying, “Bring Back Our Girls!”
