A Year of Blogging

Angela Rupchock-Schafer | January 24, 2014

Ever volunteer for something at work, immediately regret that you did, but eventually go full circle and psych yourself about it? And then fall in love with said project and forget what life was like beforehand? And then maybe, and this is just between us, become a tad territorial about that project in the process? That would be my story with the CWS Blog. Now, a year after we took this endeavor head-on, I’m incredibly proud of what our fledgling blog has accomplished. And let’s be honest, I want to brag about our blog, baby!

First, a tour by the numbers. A typical CWS Blog reader spends an average of 2 minutes 13 seconds to read a piece. Over 15 percent of people who visit the CWS Blog use mobile devices, like a cell or tablet, and those people spend more time on average reading a blog post. Almost 13 percent of our blog visitors come from outside the U.S. And the number I’m perhaps most proud of:  after a year in action, the CWS Blog has had 30,587 unique pageviews and counting.

These numbers do more than make me proud, however. They give me hope. Hope that we are reaching more and more people with the message of what CWS is all about. After all, the CWS Blog is for YOU. We work hard to invite guest writers to share on topics ranging from CWS disaster response work, to visiting CWS nutrition centers in Indonesia, to the impact of the CWS Global Immigration Summit, to participating in their first CROP Hunger Walk as a young family, to the benefits of breastfeeding for newborns. Not to even mention our incredible work in refugee resettlement! Our voices are diverse and so are our stories.

What does a year worth of blogging mean for CWS? It means that in a typical week, you can travel the globe with us and experience first-hand the life-saving work of CWS. You get the real stories. There is no filter here. We want you to experience the wonder of our work alongside us, hand-in-hand, because it is only with YOUR support that we can do what we do.

I can’t wait to see what the next year of the CWS Blog holds in store for us. Hope you enjoy the ride!

P.S. Do you have a CWS story you would like to share? Please don’t hesitate to contact me and pitch your idea. Some of our most-loved blog posts began their lives as emails that started with “So I have this idea…” I would love to work with you and see if your idea fits our community!
